How has technology impacted the global community? What specific technology changed the world?
Technology has impacted the global community in a number of ways. From being able to connect with people across the world through Facebook to being able to keep updated with global news on Twitter, people are able to communicate in ways that were not possible before. Just recently there was an attack on Paris by the terrorist group ISIS. The attacks had killed around 130 people and occurred at a concert, game, and restaurant. (http://www.cnn.com/interactive/2015/11/world/paris-victims/) Within minutes of the attacks the news was spread onto social media through Twitter and Instagram. People all over the world found out about this tragedy. "Pray for Paris" was created as people sent out their prayers and hearts to the victims. Through these sort of social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat) people are able to learn of activities around the world and to help those in need.

Cyber Attacks
How have cyber attacks (cyber crime, cyber espionage, cyber protest, cyber warfare) impacted society?
Cyber attacks have both helped and hindered society. Things such as worms, viruses, and scams have cost people their money and reputation. Identity theft and data theft through cyber espionage have leaked classified information. The Stuxnet worm caused major damage to infrastructures such as nuclear plants in Iran and energy grids. Everyday there are cyber attacks on our U.S. government that are fought. On the other hand there has been some good from cyber attacks. Anonymous, the cyber hacktivist group, has uncovered corruption within government agencies and corporations. Business can monitor technology that their employees use so that they know their employees are working and not abusing their technology. An example would be if an employee is surfing the web all day instead of working, an employer can see that and then fire said employee so that time and money do not go to waste. Overall, I think that as a society we should be aware of the cyber activity and to recognize that cyber attacks can do a lot of damage, but also that there is always good to outweigh the bad.

Computers have Changed our Lives
Discuss and
cite examples of
the
way computers have changed
the way people work,
live and communicate.
Computers are one of the most important inventions of the modern day. They have revolutionized everything in our day to day lives. They have changed the way we live by making our everyday routines more convenient. Instead of searching books or papers for information we can now just turn on our computers or phones and within a couple of clicks we can get caught up on news around the world. Computers have changed the way we work by solving long calculations in a second and also allowing meetings to take place even when the people attending are half way across the world. Computers have also improved tasks like inventory, invoices, and payroll. An example of this is LEO who was one of the first commercial computers to be utilized by a business. The way we communicate has been completely changed thanks to computers as well. We can talk to and meet people around the world through Facebook; we can Skype our loved ones and friend while they are away; and we can contribute to the Internet along with thousands of people. At the same time however, there is less face-to-face communication between people anymore due to texting and messaging. One of Postman's ideas about technology is that there is always an advantage and disadvantage with every technological innovation and texting definitely follows this idea. Texting, while it may be more convenient is also not as personal as a conversation "in real life." Certain things get lost in translation and it is a cold form to communicate with someone. However it is beneficial when people live busy schedules or are not available to talk face-to-face or even over the phone. Technology is ever changing and evolving and because of computers we are able to do things before that we would have never imagined, such as going to the moon. Technology opens doors.
